Description

A former Highland distillery that was constructed by Joseph Hobbs in 1957 within the structure of a former brewery, first opened in 1786. Only operational until 1992, it mostly produced malt whisky for blending although a Lochside brand was briefly marketed. It also produced grain whisky in its early years. This 18-year-old expression was distilled in 1981 and bottled in 2000 by independent bottler Murray McDavid. The Lochside distillery was finally demolished during 2004-2005 and the site has been turned into housing.

Nose
Big hit of tropical fruit. Very fresh. Unique passionfruit note. Overripe bananas, the kind you smell and realise you need to use now.
Palate
Beeswax, mango, hint of minerality. Very chuggable, incredibly easy drinking at 46% abv. Peach juice, and again more passionfruit. Errs on the side of sweet. Flavours are a tad muted and need a moment to open up mind.
Finish
Passionfruit dominates, especially the yellow maracujá variant you get in Brazil. The grown up version of fruit liquers like Passoa.
