Description

This Longrow Red is a 10-year-old heavily peated single malt Scotch whisky, matured for seven years in ex-bourbon barrels before undergoing a three-year finish in refill Malbec barriques sourced from the De Toren Private Cellar in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Nose
Jammy, with dark cherries, cranberry juice, and mild smokey, industrial/machine shop oil notes. Also features earthy smoke, vanilla, cocoa, leather, cloves, herbal tea, stewed rhubarb, grape juice, dried raspberries, damp clay, fennel, balsamic vinegar, and tobacco. Palate
Oily mouthfeel with milk chocolate, salted caramel, sweet ruby red grapefruit, and machine shop oil. Develops into Springbank funk, diesel oil, sooty notes, fruity notes like strawberry jam and raspberry candy, citric acid, ginger, tannins, and drying coffee. Also notes of peppery peat, red berries, honey, red apples, black cherries, vanilla, dark chocolate, and spicy elements. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 21]
Finish
Long and mouth coating, with oily industrial notes, dark juicy oranges, and light smoke. Features drying chocolate, black pepper, mineral notes, warming sensations, and a medium-long, fairly dry, and sometimes herbal character. Further notes include petrol, acidic, acetic, balsamic vinegar, leather, black cherry, mild coffee bitterness, burnt embers, warm buttered toast, wood smoke, and lingering orange peel.
