Description

Founded in 1895, Gordon & MacPhail has been bottling single malt whiskies for 120 years. The 'Pride of Strathspey' is a brand created by Gordon & MacPhail to market Scotch whiskies without disclosing the identity of the responsible distillery, though the 1938 vintage is widely accepted to be Macallan.

Nose
Ginger snaps, dried autumn leaves, mixed peel, icing sugar, rich marmalade, barley sugar. A faint wisp of smoke in the background. Elegant and pungent at the same time. Raspberry and damson jam, developing hawthorn, faint hazelnuts and exotic fruit: tinned peaches, strawberries, pineapple syrup, fresh mango, shortbread, golden syrup, oatcakes, honeyed flapjacks.
Palate
Medium-weight, with a very elegant delicacy. Strong oak binding nuts, sweetness, marmalade, fruit and bakery notes, with cooked apple, balsamico, grapefruit and even sherry trifle flavours. Assertive pepper, with delicious notes of polished wood and old bookshops.
Finish
Not particularly long, but spectacularly pretty nonetheless. Tastebuds tingling.
