Description

Macaloney's Island Distillery's 'The Peat Project' is a single cask Canadian peated single malt whisky, double distilled using traditional copper pot stills. It is made with 100% malted barley and peat-smoked at the distillery with Washington peat. This expression was fully matured in a carefully selected Portuguese Moscatel Barrique, blanketed with fresh maritime island air. The distillery is located on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, and emphasizes traditional whisky-making techniques with local ingredients and the unique terroir of Canada's west coast. This whisky is non-chill filtered and has no added color.

Nose
Medium peat smoke with notes of oak wood fire, cigar, dried hay, vanilla bean, and white Moscatel wine. Floral and fruity aromas of dried apricots, lychee, melon, fresh ginger, banana, coconut, sugar snap peas, roses, and honey. Followed by juniper and coastal pine forest, white chocolate, hazelnut, marzipan, and walnut, rounded off with a sea breeze and lingering peat smoke.
Palate
Velvety with strong peat, sweet burnt heather, malt extract, hemp rope, and seashore. Tropical fruits like pineapple, sultanas, pears, figs, and cooked apples lead to heather honey, chocolate orange, and lime-banana tart, followed by cloves, white pepper, licorice, marzipan, hazelnut, walnut, and rum and raisin toffee.
Finish
Long-lasting with a warm, spicy finale, dry with a hint of salt and lingering smoke.
