Description

Connoisseurs Choice is one of the most easily recognised ranges from the independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail. This range was launched by George Urquhart - one of the first of four generations of the family to build Gordon & MacPhail - back in the 1960s; a period where most malts were used in blends so this was quite an unusual move for the company. Perhaps due to the popularity surrounding blend ...

Nose
Malt, marzipan, apple and well-baked bread crust after good aeration. Also this hint of coal smoke that I actually like very much. Some sherry. With longer aeration I find some clove and ginger, and more pronounced sherry. Very sympathetic acquaintance, this. With water, vanilla sauce appears in the scent.
Palate
Peppery, light smoke, good malt character. Some ginger at the end. With water, the pepper kicks in a bit more from the start in the taste.
Finish
The aftertaste is not the longest, but lingers in the mouth for a long time. Gets a little sourness towards the end that I think resembles Odins Tipple from Haandbryggeriet.
