Description

This is a limited release, single cask, 8-year-old Japanese Single Malt from Mars Shinshu Distillery, part of the Sumo Series, specifically the 03 Tsuki-Otosh edition. It was distilled in 2016 and bottled in 2025 at a natural cask strength of 58.4% ABV. Matured in an Oloroso Sherry Hogshead cask #2067, it underwent a unique double maturation process, including aging in the Mars Yakushima Aging Cellar. This expression was selected for La Maison du Whisky and is non-chill filtered with a phenol content of 20 ppm. Only 241 bottles were produced.

Full and airy, with aromas of apricot and dried figs, accompanied by an incredibly delicate note of peat. The scent palette is reminiscent of a caramelized apricot cake. Over time, notes of orange, plum, roasted mango, and dark chocolate develop.
Palate
Complex and velvety, with flavors of cocoa powder, fine tea, and a hint of smoke reminiscent of a Havana cigar. Over time, malty, sweet notes of crème brûlée and vanilla unfold, adding depth to the taste.
Finish
Firm yet smooth, with a dry, earthy peat flavor reminiscent of seaweed. The aftertaste is characterized by salty and iodine notes, with hints of smoked fish, stuffed shells, and dry straw.
