Description

Matisse Spirits Company was established in Taiwan in 1999 by Yang Teng-Kuei, who decided to launch his own Scotch whisky brand after spending more than 40 years building a vast media, television and entertainment empire. Matisse has grown to become one of the best-selling brands in the lucrative Taiwanese spirits sector and also performs well in China, Thailand, Singapore, Australia and the USA. This is a 15 year old single malt from Matisse. Jim Murray awarded this 87 points in his Whisky Bible, commenting on the impressive malt and spices. It is produced at an undisclosed distillery in the Highland region of Scotland.

Refreshing aroma. Strong. menthol, floral, citrus, malt, honey, wood. Very attractive nose with lots of ripe fruit, honey, raisins and rich malt. Fresh orange juice and cracked black pepper to reveal a malty note of creamy vanilla.
Palate
Extremely rich and very balanced in flavour. Light, smooth. menthol, citrus, malt, honey, spices, a little smoke. Sweet, with tropical fruits and icing sugar atop French pastries freshly cooked. Warm and well rounded mouth. Nuts and marzipan add to the complexity.
Finish
Quite rich and lovely smooth texture. Long. menthol, honey, citrus. Clean oak adds good support. Fairly elegant in posture with refined, clean finish. Cream vanilla biscuits with just a hint of spice.
