The Scotch Malt Whisky Society was founded in Edinburgh in 1983 by Phillip 'Pip' Hills who, while travelling around Scotland in the 1970s, fell in love with whiskies drawn straight from the cask. After convincing some friends to buy a cask of Glenfarclas he expanded his syndicate and in 2004 the Society was purchased by Glenmorangie PLC. Nose
This leaves a very mature first impression. Properly aged. Beeswax and coconut shavings, accompanied by vanilla and an array of fruit. Peach, apfelstrudel, mango and peach. Plenty of depth here.
Palate
Thick and oily, just the way I like it. The first hit is quite spicy, with black pepper and ginger, then pivoting to slightly bitter oak and polished leather. Not as fruity as the name and the nose both suggest, but there's still some room for peach and lemon peel.
Finish
Peppery and drying, before returning to a fruitier finale. Medium in length.
