Description

This is a fabulous 26 year old Speyside malt Scotch whisky that was laid down at the Mortlach distillery on the 2nd June 1997 and bottled by Vintage Bottlers Ltd on the 14th November 2023 as the first entry into their Adversum series. Yielded from first fill single Lafite barrique number 187207 at a natural strength 52.2% ABV, this is one of only 120 bottles that comes individually numbered and with a fine presentation case. Adversum, derived from the Latin term meaning “opposites”, presents a symphony of paradoxes bottled into the essence of single cask Scotch whisky. This inaugural release is from the Elements series, with this particular bottle being the Water edition.

Nose
Tantalising, oddly enticing petrol fumes, stewed prunes, plummy richness, berry jam, sultanas, honey, candied ginger, orange peels, cinnamon, nutmeg, mentholated notes, wet forest soil, and a cognac-like rancio touch.
Palate
Rich and balanced, with a Speyside toasted grain backdrop, treacle toffee, oat cookies, currants, robust warmth, tobacco notes, red wine tannins, green pepper, walnut skins, deeply infused herbal tea, raspberry, and cinnamon.
Finish
Long, mellow, smooth, with evidence of fine wine, winey elements, fragrant sourness, and a delicate texture.
