Description

Originally launched in 1990, Nikka Malt 100 Blended Malt was designed to offer an affordable and enjoyable introduction to the Japanese whisky experience. This blended malt features a distinctly Nikka methodology, made from 100% malt. Two types of malt whiskies, distilled in the patent still and the pot still, are blended using an original method called 'Nikka's all-malt production method'. It brings a deep scent and mellow taste. This All Malt release has now been discontinued.

Nose
Rich caramel, toffee, and vanilla make for a silky sweet smell. There's quite the sweet floral note, possibly cherry or orange blossom, with a light peachy smell bringing orange and stone fruit notes, a bit of oak, a little spice, and a very gentle smoky touch. A touch of cigar smoke, oak, vanilla, peat and marzipan are also present.
Palate
A very soft and buttery sweet texture delivers orange crème chocolate flavours. It is very malty with a solid malted barley backing to sweet, floral, and fruity flavours. Light sweet front, roast beef and peat smoke, with a touch of spiced raisin and butterscotch.
Finish
A bit of an astringent and harsher finish than expected, with spiky oak spice and a slightly spirit-y character. Peat and slight harsh salt are also noted.
