Description

This is a revived version of Nikka's classic blended whisky. The first edition of Super Nikka was blended by the founder Masataka Taketsuru and launched in 1962. It was a tribute to his wife Rita, who passed away in 1961. Masataka overcame the sadness after her death by devoting himself to creating this whisky. Nikka revived this whisky from the original Super Nikka from an existing old bottle and revived it as a limited edition in 2015. Replicating the flavour profile of the original 1962 Super Nikka release, the special 'Revival' blend is composed of grain whisky with malt from Yoichi, lending it a heavier, slightly peaty style when compared to today's Super Nikka bottling.

Nose
Rich and mellow, oak. At first, herbal (freshly cut grass, straw) and citrus notes are joined by licorice and spices (ginger, cinnamon) evolving towards café latte notes. With time, aromatic plants (verbena, linden) accentuate this quaffy and complex bouquet.
Palate
Abundant and full bodied, the palate first exhibits two distinct profiles. One is very unctuous with honey notes (acacia, raspberry honey) while the second is more vibrant with citrus (orange, lemon) and spices (clove, nutmeg). Vanilla and lactic (coconut) aromas appear, ending on star anise and a slight woodiness note.
Finish
Long, slightly tannic. Fine oak and cereal notes (green malt) give way to noble spices (saffron, ginger) and floral notes (heather, iris) in the empty glass.
