Description

This prestigious Japanese blended whisky, the final creation by Nikka founder Masataka Taketsuru, was introduced in 1976. It was crafted with a well-rounded depth and smooth refined palate in mind, using a soft but luxuriant type of malt as the key ingredient. This delicate balance, achieved by the Nikka Whisky team of blenders, is imbued with mellowness, sweet balmy freshness, and a smooth texture. It blends aged malts from Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries, showcasing a balance of fruit, smoke, and spice. [6, 7, 10, 17]

Nose
Complex yet delicate, featuring fruity notes of ripe apple, pear, and citrus zest, with subtle floral undertones, a whisper of vanilla, and a gentle smokiness. Hints of green apple skins, cucumber skins, rosewater, and ocean notes, with brown sugar emerging over time. [5, 10]
Palate
Smooth and velvety texture with initial sweetness of honey and caramel, balanced by vibrant orchard fruits. Layers of spice, including cinnamon and nutmeg, add warmth. A soft citrus note expands, balanced between tart and sweet, with hints of apple cider. [5, 10]
Finish
Elegant and enduring, with flavors gradually fading to leave a lingering impression of sweet malt and gentle smoke. A touch of oak and a faint hint of dark chocolate provide a satisfying conclusion, along with tart and sweet apples, burlap, and a sprinkle of salt. [5, 10]
