Description

The Nikka Yoichi 10 Year Old 'New Label' is a single malt whisky from Nikka's Yoichi distillery in Hokkaido, Japan. Re-released in mid-2022 or early 2023, this 10-year-old expression is characterized by the fragrance of aged casks, a mellow, well-rounded palate, and a bold, powerful taste. It is produced using traditional methods, including direct coal-fired stills, and is matured in oak, with a significant portion in ex-Bourbon American Oak. This release commemorates 10 buildings at Yoichi designated as Japan's 'important cultural properties' and is an ongoing, annually limited release.

Nose
Fresh and herbaceous with hints of vanilla, lemon, orange, yuzu, and pear. Light smoke, white wine, grass stems, rich malt, and light orange blossom notes are present, along with subtle oak and gentle cedar smoke. Rich pastry notes emerge upon breathing.
Palate
Smooth and lively, with a fresh and peppery first impression. Rich vanilla, noticeable peat smoke, toffee, yuzu, pineapple, and lemon zest are evident, alongside barrel spices, oak, and a subtle sweetness. Creamy pastry flavors and worm tub funk develop, with notes of maple syrup, earthy loam, cream, and malt sugar.
Finish
Medium to long, dry, and warm. Subtle smoke fades alongside dried citrus and oak spice. Flavors of wetland balance oaky aromas, with soft vanilla, yuzu, loam, maple syrup, and dried pineapple.
