Description

The Octomore 08.2 Masterclass is an 8-year-old, super heavily peated single malt Scotch whisky from Bruichladdich. It was distilled in 2008 and bottled in 2017 at 58.4% ABV. This expression was matured for six years in French Mourvèdre, Austrian sweet wine, and French Sauternes casks (all second-fill), before being finished for an additional two years in fresh Italian Amarone casks. It is peated to 167 ppm and was released as a Travel Retail exclusive, with a total outturn of 36,000 bottles. Like all Bruichladdich whiskies, it is non-chill filtered and natural in color.

Sweet grapes, honeycomb, iodine, phenols, a wisp of smoke, orange marmalade, light anise and clove. Also, sweet and fruity redcurrant, blackcurrant, and strawberry notes, with a deep smokiness, malt, and salt-crusted harbor walls.
Palate
A fruit explosion of redcurrants and cranberries, followed by subtle peat, tobacco, and notes of chili peppers and spicy cinnamon. It is creamy, full-bodied, with pipe tobacco, caramel drops, hazelnut cake, marzipan chocolate, orange zest, English marmalade, burnt pastry, BBQ'd pineapple, and vineous notes.
Finish
Sweet yet spicy, with lingering blackcurrants, earthy vanilla, and a punch of heat. Long, rich, and flavourful, with mild spices, fruitiness, meatiness, and peatiness.
