Description

This is the Octomore 10 Year Old Distillery Exclusive Limited Edition Release 2021, the 5th edition of the Octomore Ten Aged Years series. It is a super heavily peated single malt whisky from the Bruichladdich distillery on Islay, with a phenol level of 90.3 PPM. Distilled in 2010 from the 2009 harvest of Scottish-grown Optic barley, it was matured for 10 years. The spirit spent its first five years in first-fill American oak casks, then was re-casked into Spanish Ribera del Duero wine barriques from northern Spain for the final five years. Bottled in 2021 at 56.3% ABV, this release is limited to 3,500 bottles and was available exclusively from the distillery. It is non-chill filtered and has natural color.

A warm and nutty kind of smoke, with roasted hazelnuts/peanuts, subtle farmy/earthy notes, whole bread, toasted wood chips, hints of seared steak, dark sweetness, caramelized pear, vanilla, and smoked lemons.
Palate
Warming wood smoke, charcoal, tar, crushed peppercorns, savoury notes, chocolate, blackcurrants, dried herbal elements, slight fragrance (French oak), subtle salinity, sweet canned fruit syrup, orange marmalade, apricots, barbecue smoke, ashy flavor, leather, tobacco, spicy oak tannins, blackberries, powdered sugar, strawberries, and a pinch of salt.
Finish
Long, dark and spicy, with rich smoke, oak char, subtle bitterness (walnut skins), sweet smoke, oak spices, tobacco, boot polish, and charred heather.
