Description

This Old Forester Single Barrel - UK Bartender Barrel 001 is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV). It was the result of a special barrel selection program in mid-2019, where eight UK bartenders traveled to Kentucky to choose a unique barrel. This particular barrel, designated as '001', was selected from the 4th floor of Warehouse L and yielded just over 100 bottles, with approximately 60 released for retail. The Old Forester Single Barrel program allows for exclusive, one-of-a-kind bourbon expressions.

Nose
Fresh buttered toast with a dollop of orange marmalade, a touch of spicy rye, oily roasted nuts and buttery croissant. Opens sweet with fresh cherries and caramel and quickly turns towards the darker notes of black pepper, cacao, barrel char, and earthy baking spices.
Palate
Viscous opening with dark stone fruit stewed in sticky brown sugar, followed by creamy vanilla, a kick of black pepper spice, mild earthy baking spices, and faintly bitter dark chocolate dipped in a red berry coulis. Smooth and slightly bitter dark chocolate praline, a touch of maple syrup sweetness and oaky vanilla peeking through. Spice begins to appear alongside berry coulis and a grassy undertone.
Finish
Opens with some residual spice that blooms in the chest as it goes down and moves to an aftertaste of dark chocolate, tannic charred oak, and almost burnt caramel. Orange blossom and lots of baking spice on a warming and peppery finish, tempered by a touch more chocolate.
