Description

A northern Highland malt distillery that famously produces the Old Pulteney brand of single malt. Located in Wick, it was built in 1826 and operates today as part of the Inver House Distillers group. The Old Pulteney 12 Year Old is a classic Highland malt, known as 'the maritime malt' due to its seaside location and maturation entirely in ex-bourbon casks.

Nose
Lemon-y fresh with vanilla, elder flowers, tinned pineapples, and ripe galia melon. Also notes of chalk, seashells, pear, apple, banana, vanilla custard, lime fudge, malted biscuits, white pepper, white flowers, cardamom, and a hint of maritime breeze. Honeycomb, oatcakes, and a subtle briny note are also present.
Palate
Creamy mouthfeel with malty biscuits, vanilla, and toffee. Citrus peel, slight oaky bitterness, sweet spices (cinnamon, cardamom), and a touch of maritime saltiness. Also notes of chocolate peanuts, mint, lemon zest, green grapes, chalk, caramel fudge, oranges, grapefruit, dark chocolate, ginger spice, pepper, chilli, and hints of honey.
Finish
Medium length with salt, caramel, and lemons. Creamy with malt, vanilla, fudge, and a bit of milk chocolate. Late-arriving spice, gentle hints of oak and coffee grounds, and a lingering dry, vanilla, salty, oak, and a touch of peat.
