Description

Based in the ex-Portuguese colony of Goa, India, Paul John whiskies are produced under the watchful eye of their namesake and founder Paul P John. As is the case in other tropical distilleries, their whisky (which is aged almost exclusively in American oak barrels) matures at a comparably rapid rate, and the distillery continues to grow in esteem and popularity. Nirvana is an unpeated single malt whisky, bottled at 40% ABV, and is considered an approachable entry-level expression from Paul John. It is made from Indian 6-row barley and matured in charred American oak casks.

Nose
An attractive honeycombed bourbon with luscious fruitcake, with a light whiff of enticing caramel pudding. Malted Barley, honey, toffee, oak, vanilla, dark fruits, black cherry, plum, fig, candied apricot, apples. Treacle and butterscotch, with baked pineapple, sweet malt and fig.
Palate
A delightful soft honey with a slight salt-edged barley; an excellent mouthfeel with honeycomb sweetness. Fig, black cherry, tropical fruits, pineapple, apple, honey, vanilla, toasted oak, smoke, raisin, malt, grain. Honeyed cinnamon and barley sugar, with a smidge of salt bringing balance alongside ripe orchard fruit. Cheerios, dried orchard fruit, vanilla, malty sweet, honey and tad grassy and spicy.
Finish
Immensely long, and richly flavoured with dissolving honey, barley, and succulent vanilla. Long finish that leaves you with an oily mouthfeel full of rich fruit flavors, honey, oak, and malt with lingering pepper, spice, and smoke on the tail end. Crystallised ginger lingers alongside vanilla and milk chocolate. Short -> Malty, hay-like and sweet. Gentle and lingering; honey and vanilla persist with soft malt and a delicate grain-sweetness, leaving a clean, mellow after-taste.
