Description

This is SMWS bottling 128.28, a 7-year-old single malt from Penderyn Distillery, distilled in 2015 and bottled in 2023. It was matured for two years in ex-bourbon casks before being transferred for an additional five years of maturation in an ex-Tawny Port Barrique. The bottling is named 'Hanky-panky cocktail' and is described by the SMWS Tasting Panel as having a vibrant, dark ruby color with notes of black cherries, bergamot, red berries, almonds, and a succulent, gently spiced palate reminiscent of Moroccan-spiced strawberry jam.

Nose
Onion and fig marmalade, muscovado, cooked red currants and blackberry conserve, super ripe black cherry, hoisin, Garibaldi biscuits. More oak comes through with water. A vibrant, dark ruby colour was followed by the warm scent of black cherries, bergamot, red berries and almonds.
Palate
Caramel, pomegranate molasses, cooked damsons black currants, more turmeric, carob caramel, grey pepper. Succulent and gently spiced, like a Moroccan-spiced strawberry jam combining a fruity sweetness with savoury ginger, cumin, cinnamon and cloves.
Finish
Fine needles and coffee tannins, Crème de Mûre, menthol, nettle leaf, black treacle, date and fig bars. The pepper manages to concentrate itself revealing tight, lightly dry, bitter tannins and camphor.
