Description

Wonderfully embodying the spirit of Islay, the Port Askaig range was created by the London-based company Elixir Distillers, owned by the Singh brothers. Profoundly insular, it pays tribute to the residents of this truly unique island. Designed to appeal just as much to experts and newcomers alike, all of its whiskies are bottled without chill-filtration.

Nose
Rich, unctuous, with white florals, lemon, pear, lavender honey, and candied notes of banana and pineapple. Peat emerges, oily, saline, creamy, and milky (coconut), followed by camphor, liquorice, walnut husk, sleet, smoke, and a medicinal coating. Earthy, sweet cereal, grassy, tart green apple, lemon peel, roasted peanuts, honey-glazed walnuts, and pickled onions are also present.
Palate
Lively and mellow, with a mineral attack. Peat, tar, fresh walnut, and dried flowers are evident. It is oily, marine, and medicinal, with notes of green malt, lucerne, and tobacco. Soot, ash, tar, intense medicinal qualities, salt, sal ammonia, licorice, and cracked black peppercorns contribute to a salty, maritime, and malty profile.
Finish
Long and rich, reminiscent of vanilla flan and floating island dessert, with a distinct maritime influence of seaweed, sea spray, and sea aster. Lingering medicinal peat and salt, along with tarry, dirty, and funky smoke. Hints of fruit and ashes, with a developing sherry influence bringing dried fruits and a touch of sourness.
