- Nose
- A lot of peat smoke and soot, shoe polish, smoked bacon, nutmeg, and liquorice. It presents as a big and powerful Islay malt, sweetened by dates and sweet tobacco. Over time, notes of camphor, light farmy elements, Bruichladdich's characteristic sour milk/parmesan rind, rich peated sherry, tobacco, salt, leafy and phenolic smoke, graphite, toffee, and orange peel emerge. The smoke becomes ashier with time. [3, 4]
- Palate
- Deep, overwhelming peat with a huge blast of tar, medicinal/camphory notes, iodine, ashes, brine, kippers, and liquorice. It is powerful, with a little resin. It's sharp but with a lot of fruity sherry, chili pepper, black peppercorns, and a salty, basalt with sea water character. A sweet background with juicy fruit. [3, 4, 9]
- Finish
- Long, hot, and peppered with a medicinal background and a hint of forest fruits. Notes of pipe tobacco and salt are present, with a phenolic character. It is sweet with rich smoke, a little dryness from old oak, coffee, and fruitiness showing as banana and peach, with sherry and a creamy feel. [3, 4, 9]
