Description
This heavily peated whisky from Bruichladdich is generally peated to 40ppm and is distilled in the same tall stills resulting in a spirit that has both power and elegance. Created to commemorate the Lochindaal distillery, originally called Port Charlotte, which closed in 1929, it was the first spirit distilled by the Murray McDavid team in 2001. This particular Port Charlotte PAC:01 was distilled from Concerto barley in 2011 and constructed from two batches of casks. One batch matured for six years in first-fill American oak and then finished for two years in first-fill red wine casks from the Pauillac region of France. The second batch matured for seven years in first-fill American oak and then finished for one year in second-fill red wine casks from the same region. The two batches were then vatted together to create the 8-year-old Port Charlotte PAC:01 2011 and bottled at cask strength 56.1%.
