Description

This is a 16-year-old heavily peated single malt Scotch whisky from Port Charlotte, distilled in 2006 and bottled in 2023 by Bruichladdich Distillery. It is part of the Rock'ndaal 02.2 series, a special limited edition release of 2,500 bottles for Feis Ile 2023. Matured in refill wine and sherry butts, it is non-chill filtered and has natural color. It is peated to 40ppm.

Nose
Smoky, rich, slightly vegetal (smoked eggplant), pears, mixed berries, plums. Sweet peat, wasabi peas, pickled ginger, marzipan, salty sea air, slightly burnt caramel, roasted nuts, turmeric, forest floor, malty, cereal, dark fruit, blackcurrants, dates, strawberries dipped in dark chocolate, ashy bonfire smokiness.
Palate
Rich, somewhat ashy smoke, raspberries, blackberries, pears, graphite, savory (roasted tomato, rosemary). Salt and sugar, honeyed peaches, salted caramel, tangerine juice, tinned apricot, dry oak. Strawberry and caramel, raisins, cinnamon, light smoke, cherry. Thick and oily mouthfeel, sweeter, strawberry and raspberry fruit leather, smoked caramels. Intense peat smoke, delicate fruit, sweet honey, chocolate, tobacco.
Finish
Powerfully smoky, tart plum and berries, sweet, herbal, nice length. Honey roast cashews, 85% dark chocolate, roasted pineapple. Raisin, cinnamon, light smoke, cherry. Long, leathery, earthy, gentle ashy smoke, cigar box.
