An Islay distillery that developed a cult status following its closure by Distillery Company in 1983. Originally only providing fillings for blends, its single had become hugely sought-after by the turn of the 21st century, so much so in fact that it was re-opened again by Diageo in 2024. Nose
Sweet sherry with beautiful Islay notes, chalky notes, wet cement, limestone, lamp oil, maritime notes (oysters), antiseptics, frangipane, lime, dusty and slightly farmy style, hints of sheep stables, iodine, peaty smoke, hot asphalt, coal, soot, cold ash, grassy and floral-fresh.
Palate
Clear smoke with spicy peat, deep and sweet sherry, creamy-oily and ultra-intensive, herbal potions, coal smoke, tarry notes, bandages, smoked lemons, kippers, waxed leather, chilli, grapefruit pith, immense oceanic flavours, ripe yellow fruit, big saline aroma of grilled fish fat.
Finish
Everlasting long, Islay wonderfully balanced with sherry, very harmonious and round with honey, olive oil with herbs, perfectly integrated peat, bonfire on a sandy beach of Islay, long with tea, grapefruit and cold ashes.
