Description

Connoisseurs Choice is one of the most easily recognised ranges from the independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail. This range was launched by George Urquhart back in the 1960s, a period where most malts were used in blends. This particular release is a Port Ellen 1982 vintage, bottled in 2003, making it a 21-year-old single malt Scotch whisky from the now-closed Islay distillery, making it a rare and collectible item. Nose
Grassy and herbal with citrus, mild peat and wood smoke, hay bales, pomegranate, orange, and soft vanilla. Brine, salt, fish oil, seaweed, and a slightly antiseptic quality.
Palate
Waxy, grassy, herbal, thin burnt notes, smoked fruit skins, more peat and smoke than the nose, with a drying effect. Brine, seaweed, medicinal, grapes, mild chocolate, white wine, slight oil, light smoke, spice, minerals, and salty caramel.
Finish
Lingering smokiness, peat, grapes, salt, caramel, wet rocks, milky chocolate, and a spicy edge. Long and dancing on the taste buds.
