Description

This Port Ellen 1982 vintage was bottled by independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail as part of their Connoisseurs Choice series in 2010, after 28 years of maturation. Distilled in the final years before the distillery's closure in 1983, this single malt developed a cult status. It was matured in a single refill Sherry butt and is non-chill-filtered.

Nose
Rolling kiln smoke and briny sea-spray weave through raisin loaf, orange-peel marmalade, leather polish and a hint of espresso crema.
Palate
Silky yet powerful—layers of charred driftwood, treacle toffee and liquorice root flood the tongue, followed by black-cherry chocolate, cracked pepper and a bright flash of candied citrus zest.
Finish
Long, smouldering and elegantly dry—lingering ember-like peat, sherry-soaked fruitcake, saline caramel and refined oak spice.
