Description

A collection of Islay single malts, introduced by Speciality Drinks and now bottled by Elixir Distillers. They are labelled without distillery names, instead using a unique code for each in the style of the periodic table of the elements. An Islay distillery that developed a cult status following its closure by Distillery Company in 1983. This Port Ellen Pe3 is the third Port Ellen in the Elements-range and is notable as the first Pe to be bottled from an ex-bourbon cask, differing from its predecessors.

Nose
Grassy with green apples, lime, almonds, tar, ashes, and sweetness. Also honeyed sweetness, bandages, old bookshelves, coal, wet wood, woolly jumpers, iodine, camphor, light nuts, pine needles, dry wood smoke, roasted walnuts, ginger, and subtle citrus notes.
Palate
Straightforward with peat, lime, brine, zest, and tar. Medium-bodied with honeyed edges, medicinal notes, soot, bonfire-esque phenols, and clean, austere flavors. Spicy and drying with roasted almonds, walnuts, dry charcoal smoke, dried citrus peel (lemon, lime, white grapefruit), herbal honey, fennel tea, chamomile, ginger, Earl Grey tea, salt, and black pepper.
Finish
Long, very salty, and dry. Precise with dried citrus notes, fennel, camphor, anise, lime peel, fiery, and smoky notes.
