Description

A Highland malt distillery founded in 1845 by John Begg. It neighbours the Balmoral Estate and a visit by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1848 saw it bestowed with a Royal Warrant. It is today part of the Diageo portfolio and its single malt has been marketed since the 1970s. A private members club established by Pip Hills in 1983. Nose
Beautiful nose, major sweet fruits, floral, ripe golden apples, very tropical, sweet berries, light mangoes, mangosteens, passionfruit, frozen strawberries, with time, good amount of coconut and vanilla, pineapple top, caramelized applewood bacon, salted meats. Also light toffee and planed hardwood with piney notes, boat varnish and linseed oil; dry overall.
Palate
Smooth, silky, freshly squeezed wood/bark juice, slight wood, sour and sweet, a little smokey, caramel, fudge, major chocolate sweets type, treated wood, sharp flavors. Sweet to short, then acidic.
Finish
Short to medium, vanilla wafers, purple grape concentrate, sugar, fruit flavored popsicles, lightly boiled asian pear, mostly grapes and asian pear skin. Attractive lingering sandalwood aftertaste.
