Description

Scapa was founded in 1885 and used to be known as the only truly 'unpeated' Island malt. It was damaged by fire in 1919, but rebuilt. In 1959 a Lomond still was installed which ran as intended until 1979. Production ceased in 1994 with occasional runs being done by the crew from nearby Highland Park. In 2004, however it was released as single malt and a major refurbishment of the distillery began. This 11-year-old Distillery Exclusive release was matured entirely in First Fill American Oak Barrels, resulting in a robust oak influence and an oily texture. It was bottled at 48% ABV without chill-filtration, and is one of 3612 bottles produced.
