Description

SirDavis Rye Whiskey is a distinguished American rye whiskey, launched as a partnership between Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and Moët Hennessy. Crafted by Dr. Bill Lumsden, it features a unique mash bill of 51% rye and 49% malted barley. The whiskey undergoes initial aging in American oak barrels and is then finished in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, with blending and bottling taking place in Texas.

The rye spice has a clear counterweight in caramel and toffee, rather than standing alone. Black pepper, clove and cinnamon give the palate a firm edge, while citrus adds a brighter note. The finish is described as long and warming, with honey and ripe cherry softening the oak and spice. That contrast makes this an appealingly focused rye character, though the robust, full-bodied style sounds more forceful than delicate.

Oak appears across the notes, but lively rye spice, pepper and citrus seem just as prominent. The wood sounds like part of the mix rather than the main focus, so this may not quite suit my preference for a more oak-led character.
