A limited edition bottling of SPEY single malt from the Speyside distillery, released in celebration of the Spirit of Speyside Festival. For the 2018 edition, this whisky was distilled in June 2011 and bottled in April 2018 after enjoying a finishing period in a tawny Port cask. Only 320 bottles were produced.

The unpeated designation puts this outside my usual smoke-first lane, but the fruit makes a good case for a change of pace. Strawberries and cream alongside milk chocolate give the nose a softer feel, while stewed plums and damsons take the palate toward cooked fruit. The touch of grist and sherried orange peels provides a useful contrast to the sweetness. I like that shift from lighter fruit to darker fruit; it gives the whisky more to say than a single sweet note. The lasting jammy finish is the reservation for my taste: it keeps the sweetness in focus rather than turning toward the smoky character I tend to prefer.
