Description

The Springbank 21 Year Old 2015 Release is a distinguished Campbeltown single malt Scotch whisky, bottled in 2015 after 21 years of maturation. Produced by Springbank Distillery, a revered distillery operating since 1828 and owned by J&A Mitchell & Co, it exemplifies traditional Victorian whisky production. The distillery is unique in that 100% of the production process, including malting barley on traditional floors, distillation, maturation, and bottling, is carried out on-site in Campbeltown [cite: 1, back label image]. This limited edition release, with only 3,600 bottles, was matured in a combination of sherry and bourbon casks. Nose
Rich and complex, with notes of dark chocolate, dried fruits, spices, and a hint of smoke. Elegant aromas of ripe mango, brûléed banana, and heather honey are complemented by waxed leather, oak spice, and a touch of coastal brine. Dry Amontillado sherry notes, orange zest, and pineapple also emerge.
Palate
Full-bodied with flavors of toffee, caramel, and a mix of sweet and savory elements, including brine and oak. Layers of dried tropical fruits, butterscotch, nutmeg, earthy peat, and salted caramel are present, alongside hints of tobacco leaf. It can also present crisp notes of green apple, pineapple, and citrus rind.
Finish
Long and warming, with lingering notes of fruitcake, spice, and a subtle smokiness. Dark chocolate, ginger spice, butterscotch, and a salty undertone develop, leading to a medium to long, waxy, and clean finish.
