Description

This 2014 release of Springbank 12-year-old Cask Strength was a vatting of 60% fresh and 40% refill sherry casks. Springbank is a revered single malt distillery in Campbeltown, operating since 1828 and owned by J&A Mitchell & Co. It is unique among Scotland's distilleries for carrying out every part of the production process on-site, from malting to bottling. Springbank whiskies are free of artificial coloring and are non-chill filtered, which may cause a slight natural haze when cold.

Nose
A sharp edge with some fiery, flinty notes. Rather funky with wet-and-then-dried paper, soil and wood pulp. Some dusty hessian/jute and mushrooms.
Palate
Very consistent with the nose, slightly more focused on the funky, mushroom like notes. Still rather dirt-y with notes of wood pulp too.
Finish
A bit more oak, and in a more typical way too. Not the pulp, but casks. A hint of vanilla shows up, but the mushrooms and dirt are not gone.
