Description

A revered single malt distillery in Campbeltown that has operated since 1828. It is today owned by J&A Mitchell & Co who produce three single malt styles there: its flagship two-and-a-half times distilled Springbank, a heavily-peated malt known as Longrow, and the triple-distilled Hazelburn. This Springbank expression was distilled in 1992 and bottled in 1999 for Dà Mhìle, making it the world's first organic whisky. It was matured in sherry cask wood for 7 years and bottled without chill filtration or colouring. Only 1000 bottles of this 46% ABV, 700ml variant were produced.

Nose
Fat and mildly feinty, with a pleasant aroma.
Palate
Lemon drop sharpness, fanning out for a beguilingly malty middle. There is a much greater presence of peat in the taste than the nose suggests, with smokiness quickly hitting the palate and then tapering off.
Finish
Chewy and tantalisingly spicy, smooth and long.
