Nose
A rich, complex, and deeply satisfying nose. Initial notes of old leather, polished antique furniture, and beeswax. Then comes a wave of dried fruits – figs, dates, and prunes – intertwined with hints of dark chocolate, espresso, and a touch of menthol. A subtle maritime influence emerges, with hints of sea salt and damp earth. Finally, a delicate floral note, like dried roses, adds to the complexity.
Palate
The palate is equally impressive, with a velvety texture and a powerful, yet elegant, delivery. Sweet and savoury notes dance together. Rich sherry influence is evident, with more dried fruits, treacle, and a hint of Christmas cake. This is balanced by a peppery spice, a touch of ginger, and a subtle smokiness that lingers in the background. A nutty character, reminiscent of walnuts and almonds, adds depth. The maritime notes from the nose are also present, with a gentle brininess.
Finish
Long, warming, and incredibly satisfying. The dried fruits and sherry notes persist, gradually fading to reveal a lingering smokiness and a hint of dark cocoa. A touch of oak spice and a pleasant dryness complete the experience. A truly memorable finish that invites another sip.
