Description

Suntory Old Whisky is a historic Japanese blended whisky, first released in 1950, and was considered one of Suntory's classiest whiskies. Nose
Pleasantly aromatic and perfume-like, with floral notes of rose and carnations. Darker fruits like dried berries, plums, and dates are present, alongside hints of sherry, honey, and butter. There are also notes of vanilla, chocolate, pears, apples, oranges, maize, and almonds, with some salty and citrus undertones, and occasionally a varnish or nutty character.
Palate
Sweetness of dark sugar and fruity qualities, including melon, apple pie, dried blackcurrant, anise, and vibrant citrus. A peppery spiciness (white pepper, cinnamon, clove, allspice) is evident, along with oak spices and a mild herbal, grassy note. The texture is creamy and velvety, with mineral notes, toffee, caramel, and vanilla. Some detect raw rice, a pleasant saltiness, and a ghostly sulphuric note, as well as dark fruit, herbs, and a trace of smoke.
Finish
The finish is medium-length, sweet, and satisfying, with lingering spicy notes. It can be described as a little crazy, soothing, and slightly drying, with hints of nutmeg, eggnog, sherry (dark chocolate cherry), and a light spice burn.
