Nose
Delightful aroma. Old and classy stuff. The wood influence is wonderful. A coastal first impression, with a fresh sea breeze and the gentlest amount of peat smoke. Lots of fruit: peaches, passion fruit, and prunes. A touch of tobacco leaves and menthol. Very delicate and superbly integrated. Minerals and earth. Chalk, clay and salt. Apples and almonds. Dunnage funk. Trends towards white grapes and peaches, vanilla bean and honey.
Palate
A splendid taste with a warm feel to it. Not to smoky but silky smooth. More vibrant than expected, with a decent hit of white pepper, furniture polish, menthol and licorice. A good amount of wood shavings too. A hint of smoke, as well as some caramel, dates and sweet barley. Lots of baking spice: cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg. More pepper than smoke. Briney, with some horseradish. Picks up mint leaves. The brine and horseradish turns into a zesty herbal bitterness. Gets toasty, with a gentle toffee sweetness.
Finish
The finish is surprisingly long and warming. Long, leaning heavily on menthol, and some aniseed too. Lingering wood smoke. Stays fruity throughout. Sometimes fruit cocktail, sometimes tart limes. Toffee, mint and a light bitterness.
