Description

A single malt distillery on the Isle of Skye and for many years the only producer on the island. Part of the Diageo portfolio, its single malt has become one of the company's best-selling brands in recent years and it is also an important contributor to blends such as Johnnie Walker. This 25 year old cask strength release is one of only 1860 individually numbered bottles, released in 2009, and was the thirteenth limited bottling offered by the Isle of Skye distillery. The whisky was matured in a combination of American oak hogsheads and European oak refill casks.

Nose
Seaweed, old oranges, subtle smoke, and chalk, with surprising fruitiness of pear, apricot, orange zest, pineapple, and tangerine. Notes of creamy caramel malt, white pepper, lemony peat, honey, grass, and oak are present, alongside maritime air and vanilla.
Palate
Sweet and meek to start, developing with acidity and saltiness. Flavors of ground white pepper, chillies, salted caramel, malt, and vegetal peat emerge, alongside woody bitterness, honey, dried apricots, and subtle peat smoke. Creamy and waxy with notes of heather, roses, chili chocolate, smoky barley, and nectarines.
Finish
Medium to long, slightly bitter, and drying, with a warming effect. Notes of vegetal character, subtle char, oak, sweet smoke, and cedar wood linger, accompanied by a persistent pepperiness.
