Description

Established as Speciality Drinks in 1999, Elixir Distillers was set up by brothers Sukhinder and Raj Singh who are also known for founding the online spirits retail site the Whisky Exchange. The independent bottlers have several ranges including the Single Malts of Scotland, Elements of Islay, and Port Askaig. The Single Malts of Scotland range consists of independent bottlings of vintage single malts. This exceptional bottling of Tamnavulin 40 Year Old was produced from two bourbon barrels, distilled in 1977 and bottled in 2017.

Nose
Honeysuckle and gingerbread biscuits complement soft baked apples and pears. Toasted vanilla pods with dried fruit and a background eucalyptus note give a hint of the whisky's age. Light notes of waxed and polished oak are balanced by pine-needle spiciness.
Palate
Brown sugar leads, with walnuts, hazelnuts and a thick, rounded mouthfeel. Rich milk chocolate and soft Victoria sponge follow, with poached pears and vanilla ice cream.
Finish
At the end, mint leaves dusted with icing sugar come through, with a hint of spice leaving you wanting more. Gracefully fading away, with a rich orange and spicy cumin.
