Description

This Teaninich 8-year-old Daring Rye is a Single Grain Scotch Whisky, part of Diageo's Special Releases 2025. It represents a distillery-first experiment, crafted from a mash bill of malted rye and barley using Teaninich's rare mash filter. Matured in ex-bourbon casks, this non-chill filtered whisky is bottled at natural cask strength of 60.3% ABV. It offers a rebellious and distinctive character, with rich, spicy toffee sweetness and deep aromas of cinnamon and clove.

Nose
Green, herbal, spicy, with a prickle. Faintly sharp acid-drop sweets, becoming soft fudge. Green notes develop a perfumed, woody cologne character. Also bready, vanilla, toffee popcorn, caramel wafers, rye spice, clove, dill, fresh-cut green apples, lemon zest, savory cereal, chamomile, primrose.
Palate
Light and creamy-smooth texture, sweet at first with creamy vanilla, light acidity, and a green, herbal side. Hot, peppery, gingery notes. With water, sweet lemon, ginger, green banana skin, tonic water, spearmint, vanilla creaminess, icing sugar, herbal notes, hay, toasted oak. Also white pepper over lemon pith, soft biscuit tones, sweet green apple skin. Rich, sweet fruit with apple, pear, redcurrant, orange, honeyed sweetness, slight buttery quality, vanilla, oak, wood spice.
Finish
Short to moderate, sharply spicy with a pinch of dried coconut. Lingering oaky spice and fudge sweetness. Snap of pepper and lemon oil, slightly chalky dryness, mineral water, dry porridge oats or cracker-like, vanilla fudge, clove, lingering rye warmth. Fruit moves through cereal towards oak and wood spice.
