Description

Chorlton Whisky is a small independent bottling company working out of Chorlton in Cheshire and increasing its releases year on year with large online and in-store retailers stocking their bottles. The releases are bottled at natural strength from a single cask with no colouring or chill-filtering and are recognisable by the striking artwork on their labels. This is a single cask Peallach (Ledaig), distilled at the Tobermory distillery and aged for 8 years in a Rioja Barrique. It was bottled at natural cask strength of 58.2% ABV, natural colour and unchillfiltered, with an outturn of 293 bottles.

Nose
The nose has ashes and smouldering tarmac, buttery pain aux raisins, bandages, salt and vinegar crisps, seawater, orange peel with toasted black spices (peppercorns, liquorice, cloves) in the background. Opens with intense notes of ash and smoldering tar, with black pepper and licorice. A buttery sweetness emerges, alongside orange zest, sea spray, and cloves.
Palate
The palate is big, oily and really smoky – with charred lemons, dried Williams pears, morello cherries, black cardomom and black treacle. Bold, oily, and smoky. Burnt lemons, pear, and cherry blend with intense spicy notes of cardamom and raisins.
Finish
The finish is fantastically salty, ashy and very, very long. Exceptionally long, briny, and smoky. Ashes mix with a touch of iodine, while licorice and red fruits leave a lingering bittersweet echo.
