Description

A Highland malt distillery that for a time during the 1970s was the largest in Scotland. In 1986 it became the first Japanese-owned Scotch distillery when it was acquired by Takara Shuzo Co and under its ownership today it provides fillings for the Antiquary blend as well as its single malt brands. This Tomatin 1990 30 Year Old was bottled by independent bottler The Whisky Agency as part of their Winter 2020 collection, also known as the 'Keep Going' series.

Nose
Just the tiniest whiff of beeswax, along with apricot marmalade, stewed apples, Galia melon, pear skin and just a tinge of pineapple. Also subtle notes of chalk and just a tinge of wet pebbles, while some floral touches linger in the background. A really fruity profile with bananas, pears, oranges, greengages, vanilla, honey, faint hints of polished oak, and whiffs of menthol.
Palate
Delicate mouthfeel. Fruits are very much present, a continuation of the fruity nose, yet the wood is a little more present with some oak spices and tannins. A juicy fruit salad with oranges, green bananas, hints of guava, passion fruits, lime, and grapefruit. Very bright, with floral honey and soft caramelized almonds.
Finish
On the shorter side of medium, losing some steam. Grassy, damp oak and subtle spices. Medium length with more fruits, citrus zest, a hint of caraway seed, and a touch of oak.
