Description

Wire Works Whisky from White Peak Distillery is Derbyshire's very first Single Malt. Commissioned in early 2018 with the first distillation taking place in April that year, it wasn't until February 2022 when their first Wire Works Whisky was released. The "Wire Works" name comes from the sight of the distillery, as it's built on the former Johnson & Nephew wire works on the banks of the river Derwent. This is a lightly peated English single malt whisky.

Nose
This whisky is sweet and full of berry fruit. It has almond notes, like marzipan and has a syrupy sweet, yet spiced quality that reminds me of mince pies.
Palate
The first notes are a super sweet and syrupy – somewhere in between stewed plums and honeyed pastry. They are almost floral, with a Parma Violet like quality. The middle develops into a lovely warming waft of wooden chimney smoke. It is darker, but still has a juicy fruit forward quality. On further drinking, it felt like there was a buttery toasted teacake flavour in the middle too.
Finish
The final notes have a tannic like dryness, that is full of fruit and wood. The heat lasts a long time and is somewhere between freshly cracked black pepper and chilli jam.
