Description

Writer's Tears whiskey is produced by Walsh Whiskey, an Irish family company. This expression, the Deau XO Cognac Cask Finish, is a blend of triple-distilled single malt and single pot still Irish whiskies. It is initially matured in former Bourbon barrels before being finished for nine months in French oak casks that previously held Deau XO Cognac for 10 to 15 years. It is bottled at 46% ABV and is non-chill filtered.

Nose
Succulent fruity notes of summer berries, poached pear, and fresh grapes with a citrus zing. Deep, savoury barley notes. Brown sugar, roasted nuts, cinnamon toast, and honeycomb. Some strong potpourri perfume-y notes.
Palate
Smooth, creamy, with luxurious chocolate undertones. Burnt sugar, Belgian waffles, banana, and green pineapple. Woody and a bit savoury in the middle, with some strong oak and coffee grounds. Sundried tomatoes. Roasted barley and gingerbread.
Finish
Fairly short. Fruity and floral, with a bold end. Roasted nuts, dark chocolate, coffee ice cream in a waffle cone, a hint of earth. Coconut, lime zest, and dried banana chips.
