Description

This was the second release of heavily-peated Yamazaki, bottled in 2013 without an age statement. The oldest single malt whisky distillery in Japan, founded in 1923 by Shinjirō Torii. It is still owned by his company today, now known as Suntory, and its single malt which was bottled for the firs time in 1984 is hugely sought-after. It also provides fillings for blends such as Hibiki.

Nose
Aroma of lively vanilla honey dripping onto barley, Autumn forest and shrine wood. Fresh beat from zested orange, pineapple and white pepper. Smoked peaches and biscuit aromas. [4, 11]
Palate
Starts with a lick of orange vanilla syrup which is swiftly overrun by mouth-drying and bitter-ish oaky notes. Thick and firm sweetness, slightly fruity, very fresh, leather, ripe, smoky charcoal. [4, 11]
Finish
Wood shed, roasted barrels, coffee beans combine and conjure a fairly heavy end note. Smoky flavor that lasts until the last gulp, deep heavy oak smoke. [4, 11]
