Description

The oldest single malt whisky distillery in Japan, founded in 1923 by Shinjirō Torii. It is still owned by his company today, now known as Suntory, and its single malt which was bottled for the firs time in 1984 is hugely sought-after. It also provides fillings for blends such as Hibiki. This Yamazaki 2020 Edition – Tsukuriwake Selection was made up of five component bottles, highlighting different malt whisky styles.

Nose
Elegant dark cherry and ripe fruit, accented by cinnamon and nutmeg spice. Citrus notes (yuzu/pear), hints of sandalwood, subtle incense, vanilla. Fresh melon, grass, and cut flowers.
Palate
Aromatic and round with gentle sweetness and distinctive Mizunara incense-like wood spice. Silky mouthfeel, honeyed sweetness, vanilla, white chocolate, coconut, Mizunara spice, light white pepper, gentle oak. Surprisingly peaty upfront, delicate malty flavors, soft dessert sugars.
Finish
Long with sandalwood and clove warmth. Dry, resinous with Mizunara incense/wood and spice, leaving a warm, lingering oak character. Fades with oak, yellow cake, tobacco and sugar.
