Description

Pernod Ricard's share of the Scotch Whisky market is second only to Diageo's; a fact that is in no small part down to their acquisition of Aberlour distillery in 1974. Despite being unlucky enough to suffer two catastrophic fires (in 1879 and 1898), Aberlour has enjoyed stable production throughout most of its life, and under the current regime its popularity has exploded. This is especially true ...

This is a 12-year-old Scottish Speyside single malt, with sherry, dried fruit and caramel giving its character a warmly sweet direction. The malt and light oak make it an appealing fit for my preferences.

This reads as a dessert-leaning Speyside malt, with sherry and dried fruit giving the caramel and brûléed-sugar notes a useful counterpoint. The warm, creamy palate sounds especially appealing, while the medium-length finish keeps the impression measured rather than sprawling. The SGD 224.06 selling-price reference is worth weighing against that character, but the number alone doesn’t establish good value. Overall, it looks like a well-focused, sweet-leaning choice for someone who enjoys sherry-led malt.

The warm, creamy malt and sherry sweetness sound easy to settle into, with dried fruit and caramel giving it a richer side. Orange, spice, and vanilla add a little lift to the medium finish.

Caramel and sherry give this a warmly dessert-like direction, while roasted barley and malt bring another layer beyond the sweetness. That creamy, dried-fruit character sounds like an appealing, easygoing Speyside style.
