Description

The Ardbeg Smoketrails Manzanilla Edition is the first release in Ardbeg's travel retail exclusive Smoketrails series, launched in 2022. This limited edition Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a marriage of Ardbeg matured in traditional American oak casks and ex-Manzanilla sherry casks sourced from Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Spain. Bottled at 46% ABV and non-chill filtered, it is a no age statement (NAS) release designed to explore the influence of different cask types on Ardbeg's signature peaty style.

Nose
Deep, pungent flavours of tar, saddle soap, pine resin, and Brazil nuts, with herbal notes, moist peat bog, and storm-churned sea spray. Sweet smoke, dried seaweed, olive brine, charred lemons, candied lemon peel, fennel, chalk, walnuts, and mustard seeds are also present.
Palate
A slightly drying mouthfeel with deep, pungent flavours of tar, soot, dark chocolate, and a distinctive nuttiness like Brazil nuts or hazelnut. Sweetness and classic Ardbeg peat and smoke, with notes of vanilla, toffee, ash, wood smoke, nuts, tart lemon drops, aniseed, and a subtle salty background.
Finish
Medium-length with notes of salt, peat, and pine, leaving a faint fruity sweetness. Plumes of fennel and pine billow up, leaving a long, lingering trail of carbolic soap, aniseed, and leather.
