Description

A malt distillery in the Highland region of Scotland owned by the ThaiBev drinks group in south-east Asia through its Inver House Distillers division. Although historically associated with the Ballantine's blend, it has established itself in the 21st century as a key single malt brand. Gordon & MacPhail is a historic blender, independent bottler and distiller, founded in Elgin in 1895. This Balblair 1973 was matured for 32 years in two first-fill sherry hogsheads and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail for their Private Collection series in 2006.

Nose
Big fruity notes of oranges, dried apricots, yellow raisins, cinnamon, and cocoa, with hints of waxed furniture, old oil paintings, cigar boxes, and subtle sherry. It is sweet and syrupy with a touch of pencil shavings.
Palate
Old sherried notes, black cherries, sherried raisins, green mango, kiwi, wood varnish, white pepper, and oak hints. It is sweet, syrupy, with milk chocolate, vanilla, and caramel sweetness, becoming dry with oak.
Finish
Quite dry and long with lingering fruits, soft herbs, chocolate, and meaty notes.
