Description

Released in 2006, this was a limited edition produced from one single batch of 79 casks, finished in fresh Quercus Alba American white oak casks. The whisky was matured in refill casks and finished for four months in virgin Quercus Alba oak casks, known for imparting a rich flavor profile to the spirit. David Stewart, the Malt Master, crafted this expression by selecting and marrying 79 traditional whisky oak casks of at least 17 years of age and transferring this to the new oak casks for four months.

Nose
Floral and sweet with heather, honey, light caramel, almond, doughy, prunes. Apples, vanilla, citrus, herbal notes like Yerba Mate tea, and freshly cut green peppers.
Palate
Spicy, bourbony, typical Balvenie sweetness, orange, sugary, with hints of vanilla and oak. Caramel, white chocolate, plums, and a delicate influence of new wood adding spiciness. Honeyed malt with intermediate notes of citrus fruit and dried spices like cinnamon, vanilla, ginger, and cocoa.
Finish
Drying with earthiness, anise, raisins, and spice. Lingering, flowery, with more toasted oak and dry spice. The new oak impact is evident, leading to a long, dry, spicy finish.
